Women’s Tennis Charges Past Dominican, 7-0

BARDONIA, N.Y. – The Concordia College New York women's tennis team traveled to newly-founded program Dominican College (N.Y.) on Wednesday afternoon, with the Clippers taking the first match in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) series 7-0.

• Concordia improves to 3-0, 2-0 in CACC play.

• Dominican falls to 2-3, 1-1 in league action.

• Juniors Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) and Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) outlasted the Chargers' top pairing of Isha Mbaye and Elizabeth Hixson 6-1.

• Freshmen Ebba Rosberg (Stockholm, Sweden) and Paula Palero (Culelra, Spain) defeated Paula Guiterrez and Joana Ndunduma 6-1 at the second flight.

• Reigning CACC Player of the Week junior Ann Kathrin Wirlitsch (Dresden, Germany) and current CACC Rookie of the Week Alexandra Dumitrescu (Spring, Texas) prevailed 6-2 at the third position against Nora Frederick and Kendra Saintel.

• Dumitrescu swept Ndunduma 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth singles position for her second-consecutive straight-set shutout.

• Junior Katrina Sta Cruz (Las Vegas, Nev.) recorded her second-straight 6-0, 6-0 victory at the sixth slot against Spano.

• Wirlitsch notched her second-straight 6-0, 6-0 decision on court four with a victory against Hixson.

• Rosberg outlasted Gutierrez at the top singles flight, 6-0, 6-1.

• Palero won back-to-back 6-1 sets against Frederick on court three.

• Karlsson Hantzis won her opening set against Mbaye 6-1, before ending the afternoon with a tiebreaker-game triumph in set two.

The women's tennis team hosts Jefferson University in league play on Saturday, Sept. 28 with first serve slated for 11 a.m.
