Baseball Swept In Doubleheader Against Stonehill

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Junior center fielder Nick Vlahakis (Oceanside, N.Y.) recorded multiple hits in both of the Concordia College New York baseball team's games on Sunday evening, as the Clippers began its spring break trip with a pair of setbacks to Stonehill College by scores of 4-1 and 6-5.

• Concordia falls to 0-6.

• Stonehill improves to 5-3.

• Vlahakis went 2-3 at the plate.

• Junior second baseman Kendell Luquis (New Rochelle, N.Y.) scored the Clippers' lone run while going 1-3 with a double.

• Junior RHP Michael Romano (Yonkers, N.Y.) got the start in game one, tossing 5.0 innings with three runs allowed off five hits with two strikeouts in the loss.

• For Stonehill, Aidan Wilde went 203 with a run scored and RBI while Michael Young tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts.
• Concordia took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third, capitalizing on a Stonehill error to score Luquis.

• Stonehill flipped the one-run lead in bottom of the fourth, with Rob Duarte sending Wilde home followed by a RBI single from Jeremiah Vargas that platted Patrick Downey and made it 2-1.

• The Skyhawks used a double from Wilde to score John Orzechowski in the bottom of the fifth and create a 3-1 lead.

• Matt Donlan doubled to send Duarte home in bottom of the sixth to extend the separation to 4-1.

• Concordia tallied five hits while the Skyhawks had seven.

• The Clippers left five runners on base, Stonehill stranded eight.

• Concordia committed one error while Stonehill committed three.

• Senior right fielder Andre Jackson (Massapequa, N.Y.) went 3-4 with two RBI, one triple and one run scored.

• Junior designated hitter Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 2-4, both hits going for extra bases, with one run scored.

• Vlahakis went 2-4 with a double, RBI and run scored.

• On the mound, junior righty Enrico Locascio (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the start with four runs allowed in 4.0 innings of work with four strikeouts.

• For Stonehill, Thomas Quinn went 2-3 with two RBI while Wilde tallied two WBI and PJ McDonald scored two runs. Jared Brooks earned the victory after allowing three runs over 4.1 innings with four strikeouts.
• Leading off the bottom of the first with a triple, Jackson scored the opening run of the second off a Vlahakis double. Sophomore catcher Josh Corredor (St. Cloud, N.Y.) made it 2-0 with a two-out double to score Vlahakis.

• The Skyhawks used a leadoff home run from Wilde in the top of the second to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

• Back-to-back doubles to begin the top of the third from McDonald and Quinn evened the score at 2-all, with Quinn scoring on a Rocco groundout to give Stonehill a 3-2 advantage.

• Stonehill extended the separation at 4-2 in the top of the fourth off a sacrifice fly from McDonald to score Duarte.

• The Clippers cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fourth, getting Luquis on base with a two-out double followed by a single from Jackson to send him home and make it 4-3.

• Orzechowski scored for Stonehill in the top of the fifth off a fielder's choice to make it 5-3.

• With two outs in the top of the sixth, a single from Quinn scored McDonald to make it 6-3.

• Beginning the bottom of the sixth with a double, sophomore third baseman Blake Burgan (Holbrook, N.Y.) touched home plate off a one-out single from Jackson to make it 6-4.

• Pinch hitting in the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Hermes Abreu (Bayshore, N.Y.) singled with two outs to score Impeduglia and make it 6-5 while putting the tying runner on base.

• Concordia tallied 12 hits while the Skyhawks had 10.

• The Clippers left nine runners on base, Stonehill stranded four.

• Stonehill committed one error.
The baseball team takes on Queens College (N.Y.) on Monday, Mar. 4 with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
