Clippers Finish Strong Race at the Hunter College Developmental Meet

Bronx, NY – The Concordia College Clippers cross country teams were in action on Sunday as they ran in the Hunter College Developmental Meet at Van Cortlandt Park. The men finished 10th out of the 17-team field while the women finished 15th.

In the men's 5K race, Corey Grosskopf (St. James, NY) led the Clippers with a time of 19:15 placing 40th overall while Wendall Cory Brown (District Heights, MD) finished right behind him at 19:22.

Tamas Dobratka (Ada, Serbia) finished third for Concordia at 20:41 while Martin Miedzowicz (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Daniel Koehler (Glendale, NY) rounded out the times at 21:04 and 22:01 respectively.

The women continued their strong start to the season. "For their first 5k of the season, the women kept their momentum and had a solid team race. Shelley [Monahan] continues to lead the team as an aggressive runner with Katie [Spreitzer] right behind her as our number two" stated Associate Head Coach Jerome Jeffrey. "Ashley [Ledesma] and Jasmine [McDonald] had great races while battling injuries all season. Arafat [Omidiran] and Rita [Boateng] ran great races to round out the strong team effort." 

Shelley Monahan (Exeter, RI) had another top 30 finish in just her 3rd cross country race finishing 26th at 24:19.  Reaching her goal of running the 5k race under 30 minutes Katherine Spreitzer (New York, NY) came in second place for the team with a time of 30:06. 

In her first collegiate cross country race, Arafat Omidiran (Nigeria) finished third for the Clippers with a solid time of 32:26. Placing fourth was Ashley Ledesma (New York, NY) with a time of 34:15 while Jasmine McDonald (Inglewood, CA) finished at 34:23. Coming through with her best cross country performance was Rita Boateng (Bronx, NY) with a time of 34:57.

The men and women will both race on Saturday, October 1st in the Belmont Classic at Belmont Plateau, Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, PA. The women are set to begin their race at 12pm while the men will start at 12:45pm.
