LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Concordia College New York women's volleyball team began play in its first-ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship on Tuesday evening, giving top seed from the Southern Division Georgian Court all it could handle in the opening set of a 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-12) setback in the quarterfinal round.
NOTES
• Concordia ends the season with a 9-13 overall record.
• Georgian Court improves to 28-6.
• Junior libero Nelly Diaz (Land O Lakes, Fla.) ends her CACC All-Conference Third Team campaign with the highest digs per set average in program history at 5.17 with 440 overall which ranks second.
• Freshman middle blocker Madison Gardner (Oak Hills, Calif.) finished her first collegiate season with 21 solo blocks, tied for the third-most in program history. Her three CACC Player of the Week nods is also a program record.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman defensive specialist Lydimar Soto De Los Santos (Trujilo Alto, Puerto Rico) recorded a team-high eight kills and one service ace..
• Sophomore setter Militza De Hostos (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) dished out a team-best 18 assists with two assisted blocks.
• Diaz logged 11 digs.
• Gardner chipped in six terminations with one solo block and two assisted.
• For Georgian Court, Kinsy Haschke recorded nine kills while Ashley Pierson logged 15 assists with Emily McCurley chipping in 12 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither side led by more than three in the opening set, with Concordia overcoming a late 19-16 deficit with a 6-1 swing to pull ahead 22-20. GCU evened the score at 22-all, with the Clippers taking one final lead at 23-22 before a 3-0 run by the host ended the stanza.
• The Lions jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage in the second set while boasting a match-high .500 hitting percentage during the frame to pull ahead 2-0 overall.
• Concordia scored the opening two points of the third set, but a 19-3 response by GCU created a 19-5 score. The Clippers attempted to stage a rally behind a 5-1 run, but the host countered with five of the final seven points of the night.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia finished the match with 23 kills on a .048 hitting percentage versus 38 on a .284 clip for Georgian Court.
• GCU held a 39-34 advantage in digs
• Concordia served one ace, the host served six.
• Concordia recorded one solo block with four assisted for three total while GCU tallied two solo with 18 assisted for 11 overall.
