Gardner Sets Volleyball Single-Game Record In Five-Set Setback Against Nyack

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman middle blocker Madison Gardner (Oak Hills, Calif.) set the Concordia College New York women's volleyball program's record for solo blocks in a match on Wednesday evening, with the Clippers etching its name in the record book four times as a team in a 3-2 (20-25, 25-12, 26-24, 20-25, 20-18) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) setback against Nyack College.

NOTES
• Concordia falls to 6-10, 5-9 in CACC play.

• Nyack improves to 7-12, 6-7 in league action.

• Along with setting the single-game program-record, Gardner's seven total blocks matches Lauren Peters' total from Sept. 14, 2018 as the most in a single contest on record.

• Junior libero Nelly Diaz's (Land O Lakes, Fla.) 29 digs matches her career-high as the fifth-most in a single match in program history.

• The Clippers' 102 digs surpasses its 93 against Caldwell on Sept. 18, 2019 as the most on its homecourt and sits as the fourth-most overall.

• Concordia's 11 total blocks ranks as the second-most in a contest on file, with the five solo blocks tying for the second-most and 12 assisted tying for fifth.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman defensive specialist Lydimar Soto De Los Santos (Trujilo Alto, Puerto Rico) boasted a career-high 24 digs with 11 kills for her fourth double-double of the season.

• Freshman blocker Tanializ Rivera (Carolina, Puerto Rico) paced the offense behind 14 kills and three assisted blocks.

• Sophomore right-side hitter Militza De Hostos (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) dished out a team-leading 24 assists with eight digs and one service ace.

• Senior defensive specialist Alana Rousset-Hernandez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) served a team-high three aces on top of 22 assists and 12 digs.

• For Nyack, Kyra Zuhlke boasted 19 kills with Rachel Medin logging 45 assists and British Dawson recording 30 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• With a tied 5-all score in the first set, Concordia scored four-straight to take a 9-5 lead. Nyack rallied and got within one on three occasions late, with the Clippers fending off each run to take the opening stanza.

• Nyack scored the initial three points of the second stanza and never trailed, using an 8-0 run to create set point at 24-11.

• The Clippers used a 3-0 run early in the third set with the score tied 9-9 to take a 12-9 lead. Nyack knotted the score at 21-all, with the two sides splitting the ensuing six points before back-to-back tallies for the visiting side ended the frame.

• After a competitive 36-point start to the fourth set that saw nine tied scores and an 18-18 standstill, Concordia scored three points to pull ahead 21-18. Nyack responded with back-to-back points to get within one, but a 4-0 spurt by the Clippers forced the fifth set.

• Nyack jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, with a 5-0 rally by the Clippers evening the score at 6-all. The Warriors again pushed ahead, leading 13-9 before the host evened the score again at 14-all. Needing to win by two, the two sides went back-and-forth over the ensuing eight points before Nyack ended the night with back-to-back points.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia finished the match with 54 kills on a .075 hitting percentage versus 55 on a .121 clip for Nyack.

• Nyack held a 105-102 advantage in digs.

• Concordia served six aces, the visitors served eight.

• Concordia recorded five solo block with 12 assisted for 11 total while Nyack tallied two solo and 10 assisted for seven overall.
