BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College New York women's volleyball started Friday evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest strong, using a late rally in the opening stanza to get within one at 24-23 and holding a higher hitting percentage than visiting Wilmington University (Del.) in the first frame, but the Wildcats ended the run with a set-clinching point before taking the ensuing two games in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-17) setback.
NOTES
• Concordia falls to 3-7, 3-7 in CACC play.
• Wilmington improves to 15-7, 7-3 in league action.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman middle blocker Tanializ Rivera (Caroline, Puerto Rico) registered seven kills on a .333 hitting percentage with one service ace and one assisted block.
• Sophomore right-side hitter Militza De Hostos (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) dished out a team-best 16 assists.
• Junior libero Nelly Diaz (Land O Lakes, Fla.) tallied a team-best 13 digs.
• Freshman middle blocker Madison Gardner (Oak Hills, Calif.) chipped in six kills with one solo block and one assisted block,
• For Wilmington, Mandy Behiels boasted 10 kills with four service aces while Sarah Couch had 33 assists and Elly Collins had 16 digs and two service aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Concordia scored the opening four points of the contest and used a 3-0 rally after Wilmington scored five-straight to maintain the advantage at 7-5. The Wildcats used another 5-0 run to pull ahead at 10-7, with Concordia getting within one at 15-14 and again at 24-23 after scoring four-straight points.
• After a back-and-forth 28-point start to the second set that saw nine tied scores, Wilmington used an 11-1 run to take the frame.
• Concordia overcame an early 7-1 deficit with a 7-1 run of its own to knot the score, with neither side holding an advantage larger than three until a 7-0 Wilmington run that ended the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia finished the match with 28 kills on a .117 hitting percentage versus 40 on a .219 clip for Wilmington.
• Concordia held a 41-40 advantage in digs.
• Concordia served two aces, the visitors served nine.
• Concordia recorded one solo block with six assisted for four total while Wilmington had one solo and 10 assisted for six total.
