BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – One match removed from winning its first contest of the season, the Concordia College New York women's volleyball team notched its first victory inside the Meyer Athletic Center of 2019 on Thursday with a 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20) triumph over reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division Champions Post University.
NOTES
• Concordia improves to 2-1, 3-1 in CACC action.
• Post falls to 0-13, 0-2 in league play.
• The victory marks the first for the Clippers against Post since the 2012 season, and the first on Concordia's homecourt since the 2011 campaign.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore right-side hitter Militza De Hostos (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) extended her season-opening streak of consecutive double-doubles to three behind a team-best 26 assists and 13 digs on top of seven kills, two assisted blocks and one service ace.
• Freshman middle blocker Madison Gardner (Oak Hills, Calif.) assisted on four blocks, tied for the sixth-most in the program record book, with a team-best 11 kills and three service aces.
• Senior right-side hitter Tatienne Tugade-Sua (Kalihi, Hawaii) matched for the team lead in digs with 19.
• Freshman defensive specialist Lydimar Soto De Los Santos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) logged her first collegiate double-double behind a personal-best 16 digs and 10 kills.
• Freshman middle blocker Tanializ Rivera (Carolina, Puerto Rico) logged 10 kills on a team-high .179 hitting percentage.
• Junior libero Nelly Diaz (Land O Lakes, Fla.) recorded 19 digs.
• For Post, Shannon Veale recorded 14 kills with 15 digs and four total blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Concordia scored the opening three points of the first stanza and never trailed, using a 6-2 stretch with the score 11-10 to create separation which they maintained for the remainder of the set.
• After exchanging the initial 28 points of the second set, the visitors used a 10-3 run to create set point at 24-17. Concordia tried to stage a rally with three-straight points before Post ended the frame.
• The Clippers used a 9-1 stretch with the scored 8-all to take a commanding 17-9 lead, maintaining a lead of four or more for the remainder of the third set.
• Following a back-and-forth start to the fourth frame that saw the score knotted at 11-11, Concordia went on a 10-3 run to boast a 21-14 advantage. Post rallied to cut the separation down to four at 22-18, but the Clippers scored three of the final five points to end the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia finished the match with 50 kills on a .139 hitting percentage versus 39 on a .095 clip for Post
• Concordia held an 80-73 advantage in digs.
• Concordia served seven aces, Post served three.
• Post recorded three solo blocks and 16 assisted for 11 total while the Clippers had eight assisted.
