NEWARK, Del. – The Concordia College (N.Y.) volleyball traveled to Wilmington University (Del.) on Saturday afternoon, falling to the host Wildcats 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-26) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
NOTES
• Concordia drops to 1-20, 1-16 in conference action.
• Wilmington improves to 18-11, 12-5 in league play.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior setter Bianca Ortiz (Ponce, Puerto Rico) set her career-high in digs with three matches remaining in her collegiate career with 18 on top of a team-leading 17 assists for her seventh double-double of the campaign.
• Junior right-side hitter Tatienne Tugade-Sua (Kalihi, Hawaii) paced the offense with seven kills while chipping in five digs.
• Junior outside hitter Camila Rabassa (Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico) recorded two solo blocks on top of seven digs and four kills.
• Senior middle blocker Derilis Valerio (Perth Amboy, N.J.) boasted a career-high 12 digs with one assisted block and one service ace.
• Senior middle blocker Lauren Peters (Monterey Park, Calif.) served a pair of aces with seven digs and one assisted block.
• For Wilmington, Mandy Behiels logged 10 kills while Miranda Shaw recorded 20 assists and 12 digs with Jenna Brown tallying 17 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Concordia jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the opening set before a 4-0 run by Wilmington evened the score at 6-all. The Wildcats claimed the lead with a 3-0 rally to make it 10-8, and used an 8-2 stretch with a 13-11 lead to pull away with a 21-13 advantage.
• With a 7-7 score in the second stanza, the Wildcats scored seven-consecutive tallies to create a 14-7 score with the host maintaining the advantage for the rest of the set. The Clippers tried to stage a late comeback, scoring four-straight after a Wilmington tally created set point only for a Wildcat kill ending the run and the frame.
• Wilmington never trailed in the third set, scoring the opening two points and five of the initial six to take an early 5-1 advantage. Concordia responded with three-straight scores to cut the separation to one, but a 4-0 retort by Wilmington made it 9-4 with the Clippers unable to get within two again for the rest of the frame.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia finished the match with 25 kills on a .093 hitting percentage versus 44 on a .238 clip for Wilmington.
• Wilmington held a 59-58 advantage in digs.
• The hosts served nine aces, Concordia served two.
• Concordia recorded two solo blocks and two assisted blocks for 3.0 total while the Wildcats recorded one solo and 12 assisted for 7.0.
