Women’s Volleyball Edged At Nyack, 3-1

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Despite a strong start on Saturday afternoon that propelled the Concordia College (N.Y.) volleyball team to a first-set victory, the Clippers could not complete the upset against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division leader Nyack College as the hosts won the ensuing three sets to take the match 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-23).

NOTES
• Concordia drops to 0-15 on the season, 0-12 in the CACC.

• Nyack improves to 10-12, 9-4 in CACC play.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior right-side hitter Tatienne Tugade-Sua (Kalihi, Hawaii) tied for the team high in digs and kills with marks of 15 and eight while assisting on two blocks.

• Senior setter Bianca Ortiz (Ponce, Puerto Rico) posted her fourth-straight double-double and fifth of the season with 22 assists and 15 digs while serving a pair of aces and assisting on one block.

• Senior middle blocker Lauren Peters (Monterey Park, Calif.) eclipsed double-digit digs for the first time in her collegiate career with a career-high 12 while recording five kills and three blocks (one solo, two assisted).

• Junior outside hitter Camila Rabassa (Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico) matched Tugade-Sua with eight kills to go with nine digs, two service aces and one assisted block. Her 21 service aces this season is a personal best.

• For Nyack, Kyra Zuhkle boasted 24 kills with Rachel Medin dishing out 42 assists and 15 digs. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Trailing for most of the early phase of the first set, Concordia used a 10-1 run to take a 17-13 lead. Nyack tried to stage a late comeback with three-straight points after the Clippers forced set point to make it 24-23 but a Rabassa termination put Concordia ahead 1-0 overall.

• After exchanging the opening 16 points of the second set for an 8-all score, Nyack went on a 15-4 stretch to create a 23-12 advantage.

• With a 12-8 score in favor of Nyack in the third set, the Warriors used an 11-0 run to take a 23-8 lead.

• Nyack scored the opening six points of the fourth set, and eight of the first 10, and led the entire stanza. Concordia cut the gap to one at 24-23 behind a 7-1 rally, but the hosts ended the match with a kill.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• Concordia finished the match with 33 kills on a .055 hitting percentage versus 55 on a .243 clip for Nyack.

• Concordia held a 73-60 advantage in digs.

• The Clippers served six aces, Nyack served five.

• Concordia recorded one solo block with eight assisted for 5.0 total while Post had three solo and six assisted for 6.0.
