NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Concordia College (N.Y.) volleyball team traveled to Southern Connecticut State University on Friday evening for a non-conference contest, falling to the host Owls 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-0).
NOTES
• Concordia drops to 0-13 on the season.
• Southern Conn. State improves to 10-11.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior middle blocker Derilis Valerio (Perth Amboy, N.J.) set her career-highs in digs with six and blocks with four (two solo, two assisted).
• Junior outside hitter Camila Rabassa (Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico) posted nine digs and five kills plus a team-high two service aces.
• Junior right-side hitter Tatienne Tugade-Sua (Kalihi, Hawaii) paced the offense with seven kills while chipping in six digs.
• Senior setter Bianca Ortiz (Ponce, Puerto Rico) recorded her second-straight double-double with a team-leading 18 assists and 10 digs.
• Junior defensive specialist Alana Rousset-Hernandez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) recorded a career-high three kills with as many digs.
• For Southern Conn., Gabriela Vazquez boasted 13 kills with seven digs and five service aces while Kailyn O'Neal dished out 24 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Concordia scored the opening two points of the contest and never trailed in the first set. Southern Conn. State managed to knot the score at 11-all off a 5-0 rally before four-straight points for the Clippers propelled Concordia to a 15-11 edge with the visitors keeping the lead for the remainder of the frame.
• Concordia yet again jumped out to the early lead in the second set, scoring the opening three points, only for an 8-1 run for SCSU putting the host ahead 8-4 with the Owls holding the lead for the rest of the stanza.
• Southern Connecticut never trailed in the third set, scoring 13 of the ensuing 15 points with the score tied at 8-all to create a double-digit lead at 20-9.
• Concordia forfeited the fourth set due to injuries, ending the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia finished the match with 24 kills on a .083 hitting percentage versus 37 on a .196 clip for Southern Conn.
• Concordia held a 39-36 advantage in digs.
• The hosts served 11 aces, the Concordia served two,
• Concordia recorded three solo block with four assisted for 5.0 total while Bloomfield had no solo and eight assisted for 4.0.

Concordia resumes Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Tuesday, Oct. 9 against Post University at the Meyer Athletic Center. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
