ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's volleyball team took on Dominican College (N.Y.) on Wednesday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, falling to the host Chargers 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 25-14).
NOTES
• Concordia drops to 0-7, 0-5 in CACC action.
• Dominican improves to 2-11 overall and 2-3 in league play.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior right-side hitter Tatienne Tugade-Sua (Kalihi, Hawaii) recorded her second-consecutive double-double and third of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs while serving a personal-best three aces.
• Junior defensive specialist Alana Rousset-Hernandez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) boasted a career-high 24 digs.
• Senior setter Bianca Ortiz (Ponce, Puerto Rico) dished out 23 assists with six digs, four kills and two service aces.
• Junior outside hitter Camila Rabassa (Juan Diaz, Puerto Rico) fell one kill shy of a double-double, recording a career-high 12 digs with nine terminations, two aces and a solo block.
• Senior middle blocker Lauren Peters (Monterey Park, Calif.) chipped in six kills with a personal-best two service aces and eight digs to go with two blocks (one solo, one assisted).
• For Dominican, Malia Robinson boasted 16 kills while Emmalyn LaPier posted 16 digs and 15 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Concordia scored the initial five points of the opening set and quickly created a six-point lead at 9-3 before five-straight for the hosts cut the deficit to one at 9-8. Concordia scored the ensuing point to end the run, and held onto the advantage until an 8-1 run for Dominican propelled them to a 23-16 lead.
• Trailing 5-0 early in the second stanza, the Clippers used a 7-1 stretch to take a one-point lead at 7-6. Dominican responded with three-straight to retake the lead at 9-7 before a 4-1 run by Concordia put them back on top at 11-10. Concordia held onto the lead until a set-ending 11-1 rally by Dominican.
• Facing elimination, Concordia scored the opening two points of the third set and only trailed for one play of the stanza. The Clippers created an eight-point separation at 11-3, but an 11-2 stretch for Dominican made it 14-13 in their favor. Concordia quickly reclaimed the lead with five-straight points and kept a multi-point for the remainder of the frame.
• The two sides split the opening 18 points of the fourth frame before six-straight points for Dominican created a 15-9 score. Concordia responded with back-to-back tallies only for Dominican to score 10 of the ensuing 13 points to end the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia finished the match with 34 kills on a .066 hitting percentage versus 53 on a .224 clip for Dominican
• Concordia held a 72-64 advantage in digs.
• Dominican served 14 aces, Concordia served a season-high 12.
• Both sides had two solo blocks while Dominican held a 10-4 advantage in assisted blocks.
