Bronxville, N.Y. – Despite six Clippers setting career-highs and one matching a personal record, the Concordia College women's volleyball team fell to visiting Nyack 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23) on Wednesday evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match.
NOTES
• Concordia drops to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in CACC action.
• Nyack improves to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in CACC play.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior right-side hitter Tatienne Tugade-Sua (Kalihi, Hawaii) logged her first double-double of the season with a career-best 30 digs and 10 kills.
• Freshman outside hitter Nilka Rivera (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) recorded her first collegiate double-double with 12 digs and 11 kills, both career-highs.
• Senior setter Bianca Ortiz (Ponce, Puerto Rico) led the team with 20 assists while assisting on a career-best three blocks.
• Freshman setter Alejandra Perez (Dorado, Puerto Rico) dished out a personal-best 12 assists.
• Junior outside hitter Camila Rabassa (Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico) served a personal-best three aces with eight kills.
• Senior middle blocker Derilis Valerio set her career-high with two assisted blocks while matching her personal-best with four kills
• Senior middle blocker Lauren Peters (Monterey Park, Calif.) matched her personal-best with five assisted blocks to go with six kills.
• For Nyack, Kyra Zuhlke boasted 16 kills while Rachel Medin had 38 assists, 17 digs and five service aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing early in the opening set 4-2, Concordia went on a 5-0 run to take a 7-4 advantage. The Clippers continued to create separation, using a 9-0 spree to take a double-digit lead at 17-6. Concordia held a lead of nine or higher for the remainder of the set, taking the first frame 25-14.
• Concordia yet again used a lengthy run early to flip the lead in the second set, scoring seven-straight after trailing 9-4 to take an 11-9 lead. Nyack responded with back-to-back points, but a 5-1 run put the Clippers ahead at 16-12. The visitors reclaimed the edge on a 7-0 rally to make it 20-17 before evening up the overall score with a 25-23 set victory.
• Nyack scored the opening point of the third set and never trailed. The Clippers threatened late in the stanza with four-straight points which brought the score to 21-20, but an equal retort by the visitors ended the set at 25-20.
• Concordia let for the majority of the fourth frame, fending off a pair of tied scores at 6-6 and 10-10 with 3-0 runs. Nyack managed to tie the score at 18-18, adding three-more points to their 5-0 rally to take a 21-18 lead. Concordia knotted the score at 22-all before back-to-back points for the Warriors forced match point.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia finished the match with 44 kills on a .154 hitting percentage versus 50 on a .122 clip for Nyack
• Nyack held a 71-66 advantage in kills.
• Concordia served eight aces, Nyack had 11.
• Concordia recorded 38 assists while Nyack finished with 47.
