Women's Volleyball Drops a 3-0 Decision at Post in Season Finale

WATERBURY, Conn. - The Concordia Clippers women's volleyball team played in their final match of the season on Saturday afternoon as Concordia visited Post University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division match. The Clippers were unable to capture a victory at the Drubner Center as the Eagles took a 3-0 win.

The first set began with both teams neck-and-neck as neither side was able to lead by more than two points as the score would be tied 13-13 midway through the set. Post would then score five unanswered points to lead 18-13 as Concordia looked to cut into the deficit. The Clippers would only get to within three points of the Eagles as Post ended the set on a 4-2 run to take a 25-20 victory.

In the second set Concordia would trail 9-5 as the Clippers called timeout to regroup. An 8-1 run later on for the Eagles allowed the home team to lead by double digits, 18-8. Concordia answered back with a 6-0 run to trail by four points, but Post would end the set on a 7-1 run as the Eagles took a 25-15 win and led 2-0 in the match.

Post jumped out to a 9-2 advantage in the third set as the Clippers would call a timeout. The Eagles would keep the offensive momentum going as they would lead 19-8 after an 8-3 run later in the set. Concordia scored back-to-back points in hopes to get a late rally going, but Post would end the set with six of the last seven points to take a 25-11 victory and earn the 3-0 match win.

Junior Derilis Valerio (Perth Amboy, N.J.) led the offense for the Clippers with five kills as senior Jenny Martin (Simi Valley, Calif.) and sophomore Tatienne Tugade-Sua (Kalihi, Hawaii) added four kills apiece. Junior Bianca Ortiz (Ponce, Puerto Rico) recorded a team-high 11 assists while sophomore Thalia Hoyos (Caguas, Puerto Rico) led the defense with seven digs.
