PHILADELPHIA - The Concordia College women's volleyball team visited Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Jefferson University on Wednesday evening as the Clippers were unable to grab the road victory after the Rams secured a 3-0 win at the Gallagher Center.
Concordia would begin the first set trailing 9-4 before calling a timeout and scoring three of the next four points to get within three, 10-7. From here Jefferson would use an 8-2 run to gain some breathing room at 18-9. The Clippers would attempt a late comeback, but the Rams ended the set with three unanswered points to take the set 25-14.
Jefferson began the second set with a 7-3 advantage as Concordia would slowly cut into the deficit and trailed 14-10 at the midway point. An 8-3 run for the Rams would increase the home team's advantage to 22-13 as the Clippers called a timeout to regroup. Concordia matched Jefferson point-for-point during the remainder of the set, but the Rams took a 25-16 victory and took a 2-0 set lead.
The Clippers would lead the third set in the early going, 5-2, as Jefferson looked to keep pace with Concordia. The Clippers would maintain their advantage until the Rams used a 13-2 run to hold a 20-11 lead. Concordia was unable to mount a late comeback as Jefferson took a 25-16 win and earned a 3-0 set victory.
Sophomore Camila Rabassa (Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico) led the offense for the Clippers with eight kills while junior Lauren Peters (Monterey Park, Calif.) added five kills and senior Jenny Martin (Simi Valley, Calif.) finished with four kills. Martin would also record a team-best 11 assists to go along with 10 digs for the double-double as senior Celine Arada (San Francisco, Calif.) led the defense with 22 digs.
Concordia (2-9, 2-8 CACC) will return home on Saturday evening for a CACC match against USciences.
