Concordia Downed at Dominican (N.Y.), 3-1

Orangeburg, N.Y. – The Concordia women's volleyball team took on Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division opponent Dominican (N.Y.) on Tuesday evening for the second time this season. The Clippers would trail in the match but were unable to make a comeback after a third set win, dropping a 3-1 decision.

Concordia began the first set keeping the score close until a 7-0 run by the Chargers gave Dominican a 13-4 advantage. The Clippers were unable to get their offense going as the Chargers ended the set on a 10-1 run to take a 25-9 opening set victory.

In the second set Dominican would grab another early lead but Concordia would keep the score close. After trailing by eight points the Clippers went on a 7-2 run as the Chargers called a timeout to stop their momentum. Dominican would score five of the last six points in he set to take a 25-18 win and a 2-0 match lead.

With Concordia needing a win to keep their hopes alive the Clippers began the third set with a 4-1 advantage. Concordia fought their way to a 10-point advantage at 20-10 as the team captured a 25-13 set victory and sent the match into a fourth set.

The Chargers would control the fourth set from the get-go. After the Clippers trailed 10-7 Dominican would go on a 15-2 run to end the set as the Chargers secured the victory after a 25-9 fourth set win for their 19th victory of the season.

Sophomore Leina Braga (Salvador, Brazil) led Concordia with a match-high 12 kills while senior Chelsea Zurcher (Crofton, Md.) added seven kills on the offensive end. Junior Alicia Vogel (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded a team-high 23 assists while junior Hillary Hoffman (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 18 digs on the defensive end.

The Clippers (4-16, 4-10 CACC) will return home on Friday for their next match. Concordia will battle Nyack for their second and final regular season meeting at 6pm in the Meyer Athletic Center.
