Bronxville, N.Y. – The Clippers women's volleyball team was back in action on Saturday evening to battle Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division opponent Holy Family University. Concordia would drop the first two sets then battle back to force a fourth set but could not complete the comeback, falling 3-1.
The Clippers began the first set with a slim lead as the Tigers rallied off seven straight points to take a 14-11 lead. From here Holy Family would not look back in the set taking a 25-20 opening set victory.
The second set would once again be controlled by Concordia in the early going. Another run by the Tigers, six unanswered points, would allow them to take a 14-10 advantage. Holy Family would continue to apply the pressure as they took the second set 25-18 and held a 2-0 match advantage.
The Clippers knew they needed a win to extend the match and this time the team started out strong in the set and finished strong. Concordia would take an early lead but the Tigers came back to get within a point at 15-14. The Clippers would then score seven straight points to open up a sizable advantage and won the set 25-17 to send the match into a fourth set.
Concordia, for the fourth straight set, took the advantage on the scoreboard in the early moments of the set. Once Holy Family tied the score at 12-12 both teams would not be able to grab control of the set. The Clippers held the set point at 24-23 but could not put it away as the Tigers extended the set and eventually took the win 28-26 to win the match.
Chelsea Zurcher (Crofton, Md.) led Concordia with a game-high nine kills on the offensive end. Junior Alicia Vogel (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded a game-high 30 assists while Hillary Hoffman (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 14 digs on the defensive end.
The Clippers (3-14, 3-8 CACC) will continue their home stand on Tuesday as the team will host Post University. The action will begin at 6pm in the Meyer Athletic Center.
