Concordia Falls to CACC Power Wilmington (Del.), 3-0

Newark, Del. – The Concordia women's volleyball team traveled to face Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division opponent Wilmington (Del.) University on Saturday afternoon. The Clippers were unable to win a set against the conference foe with a 3-0 loss as the Wildcats captured their 17th victory of the season.

Concordia opened up the first set with an early 4-1 lead as Wilmington responded with seven unanswered points to take control of the set. The Clippers would close the deficit to only two after four straight points as the score was 16-14. The Wildcats would not allow Concordia to get any closer as they took a 25-18 win to take control of the match.

In the second set the Clippers would take the early lead again only to have Wilmington take over and open up a 14-8 advantage. The Wildcats would lead 20-11 for their largest lead in the set as Concordia would score six straight points to get back into the game. The teams would alternate points to close out the set as the comeback for the Clippers fell short in a 25-23 set win for Wilmington.

Concordia would need a win in the third set to extend the match as neither team could take advantage of the scoreboard in the early going. With both teams fighting hard the Wildcats would hold a slight lead throughout most of the set. After a point by the Clippers to trail by a point at 20-19, Wilmington rallied off five unanswered points to take a 25-19 set victory to win their ninth CACC match and remain undefeated in conference play.

Junior Irina Impellittiere (Cold Spring, N.Y.) and sophomore Leina Braga (Salvador, Brazil) both led Concordia with eight kills apiece on the offensive end while senior Chelsea Zurcher (Crofton, Md.) added seven kills. Junior Alicia Vogel (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded a game-high 28 assists while Impellittiere recorded a team-high nine digs on the defensive end.

The Clippers (2-12, 2-6 CACC) will be on the road again this Tuesday for a match against CACC North Division opponent Bloomfield College. The match will begin at 7pm in Bloomfield, N.J. as fans unable to attend can follow the action via Live Stats on ConcordiaClippers.com.
