Bronxville, N.Y. – The Concordia women's volleyball team returned to the Meyer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon to take on Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division opponent Georgian Court University in their only regular season meeting. The Clipper would score more than 20 points in each set but it would not be enough as the Lions captured a 3-0 victory.
Georgian Court would open up play by taking an early 1-0 lead after a 25-21 first set victory. Concordia would play from behind in the opening set as the Lions held an early lead. The Clippers would score five straight points in the set to trail 22-19 but Georgian Court recovered to close out the set for the win.
In the second set Concordia would match the Lions on the scoreboard until the set was knotted at 10-10. From here Georgian Court rallied off six unanswered points to take the lead. The Clippers would attempt a late-set comeback but it would fall short as the Lions took a 25-21 win and a 2-0 advantage in the match.
The third set would begin just like the second set with both teams neck-and-neck with scoring. A 4-0 run by Georgian Court allowed the team to gain some breathing room at 18-13. Concordia would fight back but their effort would fall short in the 25-20 defeat to give the Lions their sixth victory of the season.
Junior Irina Impellittiere (Cold Spring, N.Y.) led the Clippers with a team-high eight kills on the offensive end while senior Chelsea Zurcher (Crofton, Md.) and sophomore Leina Braga (Salvador, Brazil) added seven kills apiece. Junior Alicia Vogel (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded a team-high 26 assists while junior Hillary Hoffman (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded nine digs on the defensive end.
Concordia (2-10, 2-4 CACC) will have a few days off until their next match. The Clippers will travel to face CACC North Division foe Nyack College on Wednesday evening. The match will take place at 7pm at Bowman Gymnasium in Nyack, N.Y.
