Concordia Captures 3-0 Victory in Home Opener over Bloomfield

Bronxville, N.Y. – The Concordia women's volleyball team played in their first home match of the season on Tuesday evening. The Clippers battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Bloomfield College as Concordia would shut out the Deacons 3-0 to earn their second conference victory of the season.

The Clippers jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the opening set as the team fed off the home crowd at the Meyer Athletic Center. Concordia grabbed a double digit lead at 17-7 as they took control of the set and went on to take a 25-12 victory.

In the second set the Clippers gained another double digit lead early in the set. After a small run by Bloomfield, Concordia would end the set scoring nine consecutive points to win the second set 25-10 and take a 2-0 overall advantage in the match.

The Clippers gained control of the scoreboard early in the third set as it looked like they would control the momentum. The Deacons would keep battling back getting within four points of tying near the end of the set. Concordia would close out the match with three straight points to take a 25-18 win in the third set to shut out Bloomfield.

Junior Irina Impellittiere (Cold Spring, N.Y.) led Concordia with a season-high 14 kills on the offensive end while senior Chelsea Zurcher (Crofton, Md.) added 10 kills. Junior Alicia Vogel (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded a team-high 31 assists while sophomore Leina Braga (Salvador, Brazil) recorded eight digs on the defensive end.

The Clippers (2-8, 2-2 CACC) will be on the road for their next match on Friday evening. Concordia will face Caldwell College in a CACC match which is set to begin at 7pm.
