Philadelphia Holds off Concordia, 3-0

Philadelphia, PA – The Concordia College Clippers women's volleyball team traveled to face Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Philadelphia University on Saturday. Both teams entered today's match coming off losses on Thursday. The Rams would win in three games over the Clippers, 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-20) for their 10th victory of the season.

The Clippers jumped out to an early lead in the first set as they led 11-6 after a kill by Olivia Thompson (Peoria, AZ). The Rams then went on an 8-2 run to take the lead at 14-13, forcing Concordia to take a timeout. Following the timeout, the Clippers committed eight errors to allow Philadelphia to take the first set, 25-18.

To begin the second set, the Rams jumped out to a 15-4 lead forcing a timeout by the Clippers. The run would stop as Concordia gathered their composure. Following a service error by the Rams to make the score 20-10, Philadelphia was able to put the set away to take a 2-0 lead.

In the final set, the Clippers took another early lead just as they did in the first set. Following a timeout by the Rams, they went on a 16-7 run to take the lead at 18-17 forcing Concordia to take a timeout of their own. Philadelphia continued their run and eventual was able to put the Clippers away with a 25-20 third set victory.

Juliann Gillespie (Clarkston, MI) led the Clippers' attack with 10 kills and recorded five digs on the defensive end. Senior Amanda Margedant (La Habra Heights, CA) led the team with 11 digs and recorded four service aces, raising her total to eight in two games this week.

Concordia (1-15, 1-9 CACC) will play on the road again this Tuesday, October 11th. The Clippers will travel to Felician for a 7pm match in Rutherford, NJ.
