Chestnut Hill Defeats Clippers in Close Match, 3-2

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's volleyball team played into a fifth set for the second consecutive match. The teams alternated set victories until Chestnut Hill was able to win the final game for the 3-2 victory (25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-10).

In almost a mirror image of the Clippers' last game against Bloomfield College, Concordia was unable to win the final set and earn their first win of the season. After three close sets by both sides, the Griffins went into the fourth set up 2-1. This was a turning point for the Clippers' offense who did not back down despite trailing in the match.

Senior Amanda Margedant (La Habra Heights, CA) led the offense with three kills and no errors in the fourth set while recording six offensive digs to keep the Clippers in the game. Concordia also recorded 4.0 blocks in the set behind the defensive play from Olivia Thompson (Peoria, AZ) who recorded a solo block and two assisted blocks. The Clippers dominated the set winning 25-16 and kept the momentum going into the fifth and deciding set.

Concordia jumped out to an early 4-1 lead before Chestnut Hill took a timeout to regroup. Following the stop in play, the Griffins went on a 9-1 run which was, in part, because of four attacking errors by the Clippers. Down 5-10, Concordia attempted to get back into the game but alternating points by both sides led to the 15-10 defeat giving Chestnut Hill their seventh win of the season.

Margedant led the Clippers with 13 kills and 17 digs in the match while Chelsea Zurcher (Crofton, MD) finished with 10 kills. Alex DePalma (Shillington, PA) and Katie Schock (Allentown, PA) led the Griffins' attack with 14 kills apiece.

Concordia (0-11, 0-5 CACC) have a couple days off to prepare for the conference leading Cougars of Caldwell College on Tuesday, Sep. 27th. Game time is scheduled for 6pm at the Meyer Athletic Center on the campus of Concordia College.
