BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its final Division II Regional Rankings of the 2018-19 season this week, with the Concordia College New York women's tennis team ending the year ranked fifth within the East Region while sophomores Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) and Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) placed as the East's second-ranked doubles pairing with both ranking in the singles top-20.
The Clippers went 15-8 during the 2018-19 season, reaching the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship FInals during the fall and qualifying for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II National Championship in the spring. Within the region, Concordia went 12-5.
Both earning CACC First-Team distinction during the fall, Karlsson Hantzis and Torres Martin recorded a 19-6 record together at the first and second doubles positions with 12-straight appearances at the Clippers' top flight. The sophomores finished the year with a 4-2 mark against regionally-ranked duos, going 1-2 against top-ranked Lotte Lesscher y Post and Catarina Zheng from Goldey-Beacom College while defeating seventh-ranked Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta from Wilmington University (Del.), eighth-ranked Abby Gamarnik and Karla Miletic from the University of the Sciences and No. 10 Begona Gomar and Anushka Sathe from Wilmington.
In the final East Region Singles Rankings, Karlsson Hantzis cracked the top-10 at No. 7 with Torres Martin placing 16th. Playing every match at the Clippers' top flight, Karlsson Hantzis went 14-7 during the season with seven matches against opponents ranked in the East Region's top-20. Torres Martin went 14-9 this season, going undefeated at the second position with a 6-0 mark.
