Women’s Tennis Faces Goldey-Beacom In First Round Of NCAA Championship Monday

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College New York women's tennis team begins play in the 2019 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Women's Tennis Championship on Monday, May 13 against Goldey-Beacom College in the East Region II pod hosted by Stonehill College at 12 p.m., with the winner of the match facing Stonehill on Tuesday, May 14.

About the Clippers
Concordia (15-7), earning the No. 6 seed in the NCAA East Region, ended the 2018-19 season on Monday, April 22 at New York Institute of Technology, falling to the 47th-ranked nationally and fourth seed within the East Region Bears 5-2.

Senior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) boasts a team-best 34 total victories with a team-leading 19-4 record in singles action while sophomores Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) and Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) pair up for 19-5 mark in the 40th-ranked duo.

Concordia is 2-0 against Goldey-Beacom this season, both 4-3 results, with the last outing between the two in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Semifinals on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Goldey-Beacom (14-4) received the No. 3 seed in the region after ending the 2018-19 regular season with back-to-back victories via a 6-1 decision over Indiana University (Pa.) on Friday, April 12 and 5-2 triumph over Slippery Rock on Sunday, April 14.

Lotte Lesscher Y Post and Catarina Zheng represent GBC on the national stage, ranking 13th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Doubles Poll behind a 19-4 overall record with Catarina Zheng adding a 16-4 mark in singles action for a team-leading 35 combined victories.

Stonehill (14-5) awaits the winner of the NCAA East Region II First Round matchup after receiving the No. 2 seed within the region and a first round bye in the Tournament. Stonehill won the Northeast-10 Conference Championship during the fall but went 1-4 during the spring with no matches against Division II opposition.

Alexandra Vo leads the Skyhawks behind a team-best 29 combined victories, holding a 17-4 mark in singles and 12-11 record in doubles while Caroline Ray boasts a team-leading 14-5 record in doubles.
