ORLANDO, Fla. – In a competitive match that featured three singles contests going into a super tiebreaker and the doubles point coming down to a 7-6 decision, the Concordia College New York women's tennis team fell to Grand Valley State University 5-2 on Thursday evening.
NOTES
• Concordia falls to 13-4 overall.
• Grand Valley State improves to 17-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
• At the top doubles position, the duo of sophomores Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) and Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) blanked Vera Griva and Marily Canellopoulos 6-0.
• Senior Kristel Kalm (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Franziska Putschbach (Moenchweiler, Germany) fell 6-3 against Marija Leko and Livia Christman at the second flight.
• With the doubles point on the line, Senior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) and sophomore Katrina Sta Cruz (Las Vegas, Nev.) prevailed on court three 7-6 against Nicole Heiniger and Olivia Hanover.
• Hanover defeated Sta Cruz in singles play 6-1, 6-1 at the sixth slot.
• After trading 6-2 sets at the fifth position, Heininger prevailed in the super tiebreaker over Putschbach.
• Dropping the opening set 6-2, Mrewa fended off a straight-set result behind a 7-6 second-set triumph only to fall in the super tiebreaker.
• Karlsson Hantzis bested the No. 31 singles player Griva in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-2, on court one.
• Kalm won her opening set 6-1 at the second spot, but dropped the second 7-6 and super tiebreaker against Leko to clinch the match result.
• Torres Martin fell in two competitive sets, 7-5, 7-6, against Canellopoulos at the third position.
