Women’s Tennis Edges Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Concordia College women's tennis team returned home on Thursday afternoon to host Fairleigh Dickinson at the Meyers Tennis Center. The Clippers would edge the Knights, 4-3, to snap a two-match losing skid.

In doubles play, the teams played NCAA Division I rules as a best two-out-of-three format was played to gain an important match point. Fairleigh Dickinson brought only five players, so Concordia would win the No. 3 doubles match by default. The Knights would take the No. 1 match, 6-3, as Marta Ruszczynska and Patricia Eftenoiu defeated junior Kristel Kalm (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Siri Victorsson (Stockholm, Sweden). The Clippers were able to come away with a 6-4 victory in the No. 2 match as freshman Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) topped Tatiana Eftenoiu and Anamaria Vladescu to give the Clippers the doubles point in the match.

Concordia would take the No. 6 singles match by default as the Knights would take the No. 2 match 6-1, 6-4 as Ruszczynska was victorious over Kalm. Victorsson battled her way to a 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6) win against Tatiana Eftenoiu in the No. 1 match while Patricia Eftenoiu earned a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9) victory against Karlsson Hantzis in the No. 3 match. Fairleigh Dickinson tied the match at 3-3 after Torres Martin dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Rachenko in the No. 4 match. Junior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) would give the Clippers the match-clinching victory as she battled her way to a 7-6 (0), 6-1 win over Vladescu in the No. 5 match as Concordia came away with the 4-3 victory.

The Clippers (13-4) will next travel to Southern N.H. on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match against the Penmen in Manchester, N.H.
