Women's Tennis Falls to Wilmington (Del.) in CACC Semi-Finals, 5-2

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - The Concordia College women's tennis team fell to Wilmington University (Del.) at the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Semi-Finals on Friday afternoon, 5-2, at the Edgewood Bath & Tennis.

The match began with doubles action as the No. 3 duo of junior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) and freshman Franziska Putschbach (Moenchweiler, Germany) began with a, 8-3 victory against Jane Malygina and Tess Paya to give the Clippers a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats responded with wins in the other two doubles matches as the No. 2 duo of freshman Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) fell to Begona Gomar and Anushka Sathe, 8-4, and the No. 1 duo of junior Kristel Kalm (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Siri Victorsson (Stockholm, Sweden) were edged 8-6 against Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta.

In singles play Mrewa was upended in her No. 5 match 6-2, 6-0 against Ribalta while Karlsson Hantzis gave Concordia their second match victory after she topped Gil 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 3 match. Wilmington took a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 2 match as Kalm fell to Malygina, and the Wildcats earned the match-clinching victory after Putschbach was defeated by Paya 6-4, 6-1. The remaining two matches would go unfinished as Wilmington secured a 5-2 win to move on to the CACC Championship match.
