Concordia Women's Tennis Takes Road Win at St. Thomas Aquinas, 7-2

SPARKILL, N.Y. - The Concordia College women's tennis team visited St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday for a non-conference match against the Spartans. The Clippers continued their undefeated fall with a 7-2 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas.

Doubles play began with the No. 2 duo of freshman Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) shutting out Cassandra Rohr and Nyenyeri Kanefu 8-0. The No. 3 duo of junior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) and freshman Franziska Putschbach (Moenchweiler, Germany) followed with an 8-1 victory against Katarina Lopez and Carolyn Kopf while the No. 1 duo of junior Kristel Kalm (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Siri Victorsson (Stockholm, Sweden) capped doubles play with an 8-5 win over Lovisa Engstrand and Sara O'Brien.

In singles play Victorsson dominated her No. 1 match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Rohr while Torres Martin battled her way to a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8) come-from-behind win over Kanefu in the No. 2 match. The Spartans would take the No. 3 match from Concordia as Kalm was upended 7-6 (4), 7-5 and Mrewa retired against O'Brien after dropping the first set 6-4 in her No. 5 match. Karlsson Hantzis topped Lopez in the No. 4 match 6-4, 6-0 while Putschbach earned an 8-2 pro-set victory against Kopf in the No. 6 match as the Clippers took the 7-2 win.

Concordia (10-0, 7-0 CACC) will close out their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon by hosting Goldey-Beacom, the defending CACC Champions. First serve in the Meyers Tennis Center is set for 12 p.m.
