Women's Tennis Tops CACC Rival Chestnut Hill, 8-1

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Concordia Clippers women's tennis team hosted Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Chestnut Hill College on Sunday. Concordia would continue their undefeated record this fall with an 8-1 win over the Griffins at the Meyers Tennis Center.

The No. 3 duo of junior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) and freshman Franziska Putschbach (Moenchweiler, Germany) began doubles play for the Clippers with an 8-0 win against Laura Lupin and Nicole Yang as the No. 2 duo of freshman Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) followed with an 8-3 win against Julia Bellon and Daniela Siqueira. The No. 1 match of junior Kristel Kalm (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Siri Victorsson (Stockholm, Sweden) would also go in favor of Concordia as the duo came away with an 8-4 victory over Nicola Guzowska and Barbara Broville as the Clippers held a 3-0 lead going into singles play.

Victorsson gave Concordia the 4-0 advantage after her 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 1 match against Guzowska. Chestnut Hill's only victory came in the No. 3 match as Kalm fell to Bellon 6-2, 7-6 (3) while Karlsson Hantzis won her No. 2 match 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 over Broville to give the Clippers the match-clinching victory. Putschbach easily took a 6-0, 6-0 win in her No. 5 match against Yang while Mrewa battled her way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Siqueira in the No. 4 match. Freshman Katrina Sta Cruz (Las Vegas, Nev.) capped the match for Concordia with an 8-3 pro-set win in the No. 6 match against Lupin as the Clippers took the 8-1 victory.

Concordia (9-0, 7-0 CACC) will next visit St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday for a non-conference match in Sparkill, N.Y. beginning at 3 p.m.
