Concordia’s 5-0 Victory over Holy Family Secures Spot in CACC Championship Match

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Concordia College Clippers women's tennis team battled Holy Family University in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals match this afternoon. The Clippers won 5-0 to secure a spot in the championship match for the fourth consecutive season.

Concordia would jump out to an early 3-0 lead after they swept the doubles matches. Senior Yuliya Plevako (Astana, Kazakhstan) and freshman Luisa Candido (Boca Raton, Fla.) won their No. 1 doubles match 8-5 over the duo of Juliana Victoria and Alina Nersesyan. The No. 2 doubles team of Ana Mendes (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) and Clara Catanzano (Sete, France) would grab an 8-2 win over Steicy Castro/Maja Pantelic  while Camilla Xavier (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Alla Kravchuk (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) secured an 8-0 victory in their No. 3 doubles match against Jacqueline Clyne and Casey Borish.

In singles play, Plevako would take a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles over Pantelic. Candidio would follow shortly thereafter with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Nersesyan in the No. 2 singles match to give the Clippers a 5-0 match victory and a spot in Sunday's CACC Championship Match.

At the time the match ended, Kravchuk was in the middle of her No. 1 singles match as was the No.4 match of Mendes, the No. 5 match of Catanzano and the No. 6 match of freshman Estelle Fougeray (Argences, France).

Concordia will now await the winner of the No. 2 seeded Goldey-Beacom Lightning and the No. 3 seeded Chestnut Hill Griffins match which is set to finish Saturday evening. The championship match will take place at 1pm at Chestnut Hill College with Live Stats available for fans unable to attend on ConcordiaClippers.com.
