Concordia Edges Chestnut Hill 5-4 to Remain Undefeated

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Concordia women's tennis team battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Chestnut Hill College in a highly competitive match on Saturday afternoon. Early victories were key for the Clippers to clinch a 5-4 win against the Griffins to remain undefeated this season.

Chestnut Hill took an early 1-0 lead after winning the No. 2 doubles match 8-5 but Concordia won the other two matches 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and 8-4 at No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 match advantage into singles play.

The first singles match to finish was the No. 4 match which featured Ana Mendes (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil). Mendes was able to defeat her opponent with ease as she took a 6-2, 6-1 victory and gave the Clippers a 3-1 advantage in the match. Clara Catanzano's (Sete, France) No. 5 match would be the next to finish as she grabbed a 6-3, 6-1 victory which allowed Concordia to only need one more individual win for the overall match victory.

Luisa Candido (Boca Raton, Fla.) at No. 1 singles would give the Clippers their match clinching victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win. The Griffins would take the final three singles matches to finish the match with a 5-4 defeat to Concordia. The Clippers have now won every match against Chestnut Hill since joining the CACC in 2009.

Concordia (3-0, 3-0 CACC) will return home for their next match which will be against CACC opponent Caldwell College on Wednesday afternoon. The match is set to begin at 3:30pm at the Meyers Tennis Center on the campus of Concordia College.
