Streaks Continue For Women’s Soccer In 4-3 Victory at Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Concordia College New York women's soccer team took a quick 2-0 lead in the opening 11 minutes of play on Wednesday afternoon and never trailed against host College of Staten Island, with freshman midfielder Leigh-Ann Ramsay (Bronx, N.Y.) and redshirt-junior Sara Calvert (Apple Valley, Calif.) each scoring a goal to continue their strong starts to the 2019 season in a 4-3 victory.

NOTES
• Concordia improves to 2-2.

• Staten Island falls to 1-3.

• Ramsay extends her season-opening streak to four-consecutive matches with at least one point recorded.

• Calvert has now scored a goal in three-straight matches.

• The four scores are the most for the program since a 7-2 victory against Bloomfield College on Oct. 16,  2016

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Ramsay scored her third goal of the season while taking team-high three shots with two on target to score her third goal of the season.

• Calvert's goal came off two shots, both on target.

• Freshman Reagan Pechy (Pomona, Calif.) scored her first collegiate goal

• Freshman defender Morganne Cartee (New Milford, Conn.) recorded her first collegiate point

• Redshirt-sophomore keeper Sophia Cogan (Seal Beach, Calif.) stopped 11 shots in goal.

• For Staten Island, Rebecca D'Aloia, Amber Mitchell and Samantha Lavalle all scored one goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• An own goal by the host in the sixth minute quickly gave the Clippers a 1-0 lead.

• Concordia capitalized on a Staten Island turnover in the 11th minute with Calvert sending the ball into the top left corner to create a 2-0 advantage.

• The Dolphins took a pair of shots within a 10 second span during the 13th minute, with the second getting past Cogan to make it 2-1.

• Ramsay pushed the ball down the field in the 28th minute, battling through a pair of defenders before finding the back of the net to boast a 3-1 edge.

• Staten Island cut into the separation in the 32nd minute with Mitchell scoring for the Dolphins to make it 3-2.

• LaValle evened the score at 3-all in the 49th minute off a pass from Aparicio.

• Pechy propelled the Clippers to a 4-3 lead in the 54th minute off a corner kick from Cartee.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• Concordia recorded 10 shots, eight on goal versus 16 with 14 on target for the hosts.

• Staten Island held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

• Neither side received a caution.

UP NEXT 
The women's soccer team opens up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Holy Family. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
