Concordia Women's Soccer Edged at Salem Int'l, 2-1

SALEM, W. VA. - The Concordia Clippers women's soccer team visited Salem International University for their first-ever matchup on Friday evening. Concordia was edged, 2-1, at Catalano Stadium as the Clippers out-shot the Tigers, 17-16.

Salem Int'l would score on their first shot of the game in the fourth minute to take the early 1-0 lead. Concordia managed to take four shots over the next seven minutes of play, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Clippers' offensive pressure would pay off in the 40th minute as sophomore Sara Calvert (Apple Valley, Calif.) scored her second goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1. Neither side could score the go-ahead goal in the closing minutes of the half as the score was tied, 1-1, after 45 minutes of action.

Concordia would begin the second have with back-to-back shots on net, but could not score the go-ahead goal. The Tigers would be the ones to take the lead in the 59th minute as the Clippers looked to apply more offensive pressure. Concordia was able to get three more shots on net, including one with 15 seconds to go in the game, but couldn't tie the score as Salem Int'l held on for the 2-1 win.

Freshman Christina Majdanski (Yonkers, N.Y.) made seven saves for the Clippers as Concordia held a 4-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

The Clippers (1-6, 1-3 CACC) will return home to face Felician University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Tuesday afternoon.
