BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers women's soccer team hosted Nyack College for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Wednesday afternoon at Holtdorf Soccer Field. Concordia would take a 2-1 lead into halftime, but the Warriors scored three unanswered to take a 4-2 win in the conference showdown.
Nyack jumped on the scoreboard first in the 12th minute as Vanessa Sefriou sent a pass upfield for Camila Parada for her first goal of the year. The Clippers scored the equalizer in the 23rd minute as the Warriors turned the ball over and it was recovered by freshman Miranda Merino (Victorville, Calif.). Merino then sent a pass to freshman Jimena Garcia Risoto (Madrid, Spain) who found freshman Sara Calvert (Apple Valley, Calif.) for a shot into the left side of the net.
In the 37th minute Concordia would strike again as freshman Hannah Deknikker (Davis, Calif.) scored her first collegiate goal. Calvert would send a quick pass to Garcia Risoto who then found Deknikker about 10-yards out of the goal. Hannah would send the ball over the Nyack goalkeeper's head to give the Clippers the 2-1 lead at the half.
The Warriors knotted the score in the 51st minute after Charlotte Barnham would send a pass to Zoe Mould and dribbled past the defense for a shot over Concordia freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Wilczynski's (Shrewsbury, Mass.) head. The go-ahead goal for Nyack came five minutes later as Mould scored her second goal of the game off a pass from Rebekah Lawler.
The Clippers would have many chances offensively to tie the game as Concordia took eight more shots until the end of regulation. The Warriors manged to score an insurance goal in the 86th minute as Sefriou recovered a loose ball in the 18-yard box and set up Barnham for Nyack's fourth goal of the game to take the 4-2 victory.
Wilczynski made two saves for the Clippers in the defeat as Concordia held a slight 18-17 edge in shots as 11 of the shots for the Clippers were on goal. Both teams took two corner kicks in the game.
Concordia (1-6-0, 0-5-0 CACC) will next visit Chestnut Hill on Saturday morning for a CACC matchup. Kickoff in Lafayette Hill, Pa. is set for 10 a.m.
