Graves Records Double-Double For Women’s Basketball In 64-48 Setback At Robert Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior Shanice Graves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded her first double-double as a member of the Concordia College New York women's basketball team on Friday evening, with senior guard Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) scoring a team-high 16 points against Robert Wesleyan College in a 64-48 setback.

• Concordia falls to 0-3.

• Robert Wesleyan improves to 1-2.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• 12 of Nicholson's 16 points came from beyond the arc, with the senior adding two steals.

• Graves pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds with 11 points.

• Freshman guard Christina Brown (Ardmore, Pa.) dished out a team-best five assists on top of seven rebounds.

• Freshman forward Jaayden Lafontant (Thiells, N.Y.) boasted two blocks with eight rebounds.

• For Robert Wesleyan, Emily Miller scored 25 points with 13 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The host scored the opening 11 points of the contest to quickly take an 11-0 lead with 5:45 remaining in the first quarter. Graves got the Clippers on the scoreboard with a pair of free throws, sparking an 11-7 stretch which made it 18-11 with 2:05 left in the frame. Robert Wesleyan connected on a layup and free throw back-to-back to recreate its double-digit advantage, but a pair of Grave free throws made it 21-13 at the end of the quarter.

• Concordia scored the opening point of the second quarter via a Nicholson triple, but an 8-0 stretch by the host created a 29-16 score with 3:02 left in the half. Graves ended the run with a jumper, only for RWC to end the half with a triple and layup to boast a 34-18 advantage.

• A Lafontant triple and pair of Graves free throws to start the second half got the Clippers within 11, but an 8-0 response by the Redhawks made it 42-23 with 7:23 left in the third quarter. Concordia countered with a 9-4 stretch to make it 46-31, with neither side scoring consecutive baskets over the final 3:57 to create a 52-35 score going into the final frame.

• Graves responded to Robert Wesleyan's opening basket of the fourth quarter with a triple, with a pair of Nicholson triples following back-to-back Redhawks baskets making it 58-44 with 6:23 left in the contest. The two exchanged layups to maintain the separation before a four minute stretch with only four free throws made, all by the host, to make it 64-46 with 0:49 remaining. Sophomore guard Sara Hopkins (Mountain Top, Pa.) scored the final basket of the contest to create the final score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Clippers converted on 14-68 shots, going 7-28 from three-point territory and 13-16 from the free throw line.

• Robert Wesleyan finished 26655 from the field, 6-23 from distance and 14-22 from the free throw line.

• Concordia recorded 11 assists while RWC had 15.

• Both teams recorded 48 rebounds.

• Concordia committed 21 turnovers, resulting in 20 points for Robert Wesleyan. The Redhawks had 16 turnovers, leading to seven points.

• Concordia recorded seven steals with two blocks while RWC had 11 steals with eight block.

• Concordia's bench scored nine points while the Redhawks got 32 from its bench.
