Clement Sees Double In Women’s Basketball’s 80-63 Victory Over Nyack

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Sabrina Clement (Queens, N.Y.) logged her first collegiate double-double on Tuesday afternoon and was one of five members of the Concordia College New York women's basketball team to finish the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest with double-digit points, as the Clippers' balanced attack proved too much for visiting Nyack College in an 80-63 victory.

• Concordia improves to 4-14, 2-7 in CACC play.

• Nyack drops to 3-14 overall, 1-8 in league action.

• The Clippers' 22 assists is the fourth-highest mark in the program record book and the most against a CACC opponent.

• The 80 points score ties for the 10th-most in the program record

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Clement matched her career-high with 14 rebounds to go with 11 points, three assists and three steals.

• Sophomore guard Cameron Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored a team-leading 18 points with five assists and four rebounds.

• Freshman guard Sara Hopkins (Mountain Top, Pa.) scored 12 points while matching her personal-record with five assists.

• Junior guard Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in 12 points with four assists, four rebounds and two steals.

• Junior center Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) scored 11 points on 5-6 shooting with five rebounds and a block.

• For Nyack, Elle Nittinger scored 14 points while Jocelin Wright scored 12 with four assists and Kyla Given chipped in 11 with 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Trailing early 7-5, the Clippers used a 20-0 run with Corbett, Hopkins, Clement, sophomore forward Jordyn Hornbuckle (Hopkinsville, Ky.) and Nicholson all contributing to propel the hosts to a 25-7 advantage with 2:23 left in the opening quarter. Nyack ended the run with a jumper, while a Rankins layup and sophomore guard Saundra Cleckley (Queens, N.Y.) free throw before the end of the frame created a 28-9 score.

• Nyack held the Clippers to one basket over the opening 5:31 of the second quarter, with the Warriors scoring six points during the stretch before a Nicholson layup made it 32-15 with 4:29 remaining. The Clippers responded to a Nyack basket with a Nicholson triple, with the visitors scoring the final seven points of the half to make it 35-24.

• Nyack scored on the opening possession of the second half to cut the deficit to single digits, but a quick 6-0 spurt for the Clippers extended the lead to 41-26. The Warriors connected on back-to-back baskets, with a 10-3 stretch for Concordia making it 51-33 with 3:06 to go in the quarter. The Clippers extended the separation to 20 at 57-37, with a Nyack free throw creating a 57-38 score going into the fourth quarter.

• Concordia created a game-high 22-point lead at 69-47 with 4:39 remaining in the contest, with Nyack cutting it down to as little as 12 at 75-63 with 1:17 to play. Concordia ended the game with the final five points.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• The Clippers converted on 28-62 shots, going 6-20 from three-point territory and 18-22 from the free throw line.

• Nyack finished 25-65 from the field, 3-19 from distance and 10-18 from the free throw line.

• Five Clippers recorded three or more assists, with Nyack recording 13 overall

• Concordia committed 16 turnovers, resulting in 17 points for Nyack. The Warriors committed 17 turnovers, leading to 21 points.

• Concordia held a 43-37 advantage in rebounds.

• Concordia got 19 points from its bench while Nyack got 16

• Concordia recorded 13 steals with five blocks while Nyack stole the ball seven times with three blocks.
