BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Despite a historic outing from the free throw line that ranks amongst the best in the Concordia College New York women's basketball records, the Clippers were unable to overcome a strong fourth quarter by the visiting Felician University after the two sides fought to a standstill for three quarters in a 76-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) setback.
NOTES
• Concordia falls to 2-12, 0-5 in CACC play.
• Felician improves to 3-9 overall, 3-2 in league action.
• The Clippers' .920 free throw percentage (23-25) is the fifth-highest in the program record.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore guard Cameron Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the offense with 25 points, connecting on 13 free throws that ties for the third-most in a single game while her .929 free throw percentage (13-14) sits seventh in the program record book. Corbett also chipped in four steals, four assists and three rebounds.
• Freshman guard Sara Hopkins (Mountain Top, Pa.) eclipsed 20 points for the first time in her career with 21.
• Sophomore forward Sabrina Clement (Queens, N.Y.) matched her career-high with 12 rebounds while adding a personal-best three steals and a block.
• Junior guard Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded three steals.
• For Felician, Bionca Chambers boasted 19 points with nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Felician jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage before a pair of Hopkins free throws and Nicholson layup made it 5-4 with 8:36 to go in the quarter. The Clippers took the lead at 9-8 off a three-point play by Corbett, with a jump shot from Hopkins extending the lead before a triple from Felician evened the score at 11-all with 6:21 remaining in the half. Felician responded to a pair of Hopkins free throws with a triple to take a 14-13 edge, and recreated its five-point lead at 24-19 before five-straight points for Nicholson to end the frame evened the score at 24-24.
• Neither side held a lead greater than three in a back-and-forth second quarter, with a pair of free throws and layup from Corbett giving the Clippers a 30-27 lead with 8:47 remaining in the half. Felician responded with an 8-3 stretch to hold a 35-33 advantage with 6:13 to go in the half, with the Clippers ending the quarter on a 7-4 run with sophomore guard Jackie Ciccotto (Staten Island, N.Y.), sophomore forward Jordyn Hornbuckle (Hopkinsville, Ky.) and Hopkins all scoring to create a 40-39 halftime score.
• After a Golden Falcon free throw knotted the score at 40-all, a Corbett jump shot sparked a 6-0 Concordia run to give the hosts a 46-40 lead with 7:06 remaining in the frame. Felician ended the run with a free throw, and scored eight of the ensuing nine points to even the score at 48-48 with 2:32 remaining. The two sides split the final 10 points of the quarter, keeping the score tied at 53-53 going into the final frame.
• Felician scored the opening six points of the fourth quarter, with three-straight Corbett free throws cutting the visitors' lead in half at 59-56 with 7:55 to play. The Golden Falcons responded with back-to-back baskets to extend the separation to seven at 63-56, with Concordia unable to get within three for the remainder of the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Clippers converted on 21-54 shots, going 4-15 from three-point territory and 23-25 from the free throw line.
• Felician finished 29-75 from the field, 7-27 from distance and 11-16 from the free throw line.
• Concordia dished out 12 assists versus 17 for the visitors.
• Concordia committed 17 turnovers, resulting in 14 points for Felician. The Golden Falcons committed 12 turnovers, leading to 15 points.
• Felician held a 45-35 advantage in rebounds.
• Concordia' bench scored three points while Felician got 10 from its bench.
• Concordia recorded 12 steals with three blocks while Felician stole the ball six times with six blocks.
