NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Concordia College (N.Y.) women's basketball team played its final game of 2018 on Wednesday afternoon at Southern Connecticut State University, falling to the host Owls 96-48.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore guard Cameron Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored a team-best 14 points with two assists.
• Junior guard Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in 13 points with three rebounds and a steal.
• Sophomore guard Jackie Ciccotto (Staten Island, N.Y.) pulled down a team-high five rebounds with three points and two assists.
• For Southern Conn., Kiana Steinauer scored 33 points with 31 rebounds, three assists and two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Southern Conn. State began the contest with a jump shot and three pointer in the opening minute, with a junior center Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) basket getting Concordia on the scoreboard and making it 5-2 with 7:54 remaining in the frame. Nicholson, sophomore forward Sabrina Clement (Queens, N.Y.), Corbett and freshman guard Sarah Hopkins (Mountain Top, Pa.) all scored for Concordia in the initial quarter, with the host holding a 30-11 lead.
• The Owls extended the separation with a 10-1 stretch to start the second quarter, creating a 40-12 score with 5:33 remaining in the half. Freshman forward Rhona McCaughey (Maspeth, N.Y.) and Nicholson connected on triples, sandwiching a pair of SCSU layups to make it 44-18 with 4:14 to go before halftime. Southern Conn ended the half with an 11-2 spurt with Ciccotto scoring for Concordia to hold a 55-20 lead.
• After exchanging jump shots to begin the third quarter, Southern Conn. used a 7-2 stretch to take a 64-24 advantage with 6:24 remaining in the stanza. Concordia ended the run off a Corbett triple, with Corbett adding four more points in the quarter and Rhona adding two for the Clippers who trailed 78-36 going into the final 10 minutes.
• Concordia matched the host for the opening 12 points of the fourth quarter with Nicholson, Rankins and Corbett all scoring before an 8-1 run for SCSU made it 92-44 with 3:57 to play. Concordia responded with back-to-back baskets from Nicholson and sophomore forward Jordyn Hornbuckle (Hopkinsville, Ky.), with a free throw and triple for Southern Conn. creating the final score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Clippers converted on 15-56 shots, going 6-19 from three-point territory and 12-20 from the free throw line.
• Southern Conn. finished 35-68 from the field, 12-30 from distance and 14-22 from the free throw line.
• Concordia dished out eight assists versus 22 for the hosts.
• Concordia committed 14 turnovers, resulting in 24 points for SCSU. The Owls committed 10 turnovers, leading to four Clippers' points.
• SCSU held a 55-29 advantage in rebounds.
• Concordia' bench scored 11 points while Southern Conn. got 14 from its bench.
• Concordia recorded three steals while SCSU stole the ball five times with three block.
