BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College (N.Y.) women's basketball team played its final home contest of 2018 on Saturday afternoon, falling to the visiting Post University Eagles 68-52 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
NOTES
• Concordia falls to 2-7, 0-2 in CACC play.
• Post improves to 4-5, 2-1 in league action.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior center Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) scored 14 points while matching her career-highs with four assists and three blocks.
• Junior guard Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.J.) recorded 10 points with three steals.
• Sophomore forward Sabrina Clement (Queens, N.Y.) pulled down a team-high seven boards.
• Freshman guard Rhona McCaughey (Maspeth, N.Y.) tallied a personal-best three steals.
• For Post, Sh'Raya Haines scored 22 points while Mia Crooms tallied 14 points with 13 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing early 11-2, Concordia used a 9-0 rally with Rankins, sophomore guard Saundra Cleckley (Queens, N.Y.) and Nicholson all contributing to even the score at 11-all with 4:18 to play. The two sides swapped baskets to keep the score even with sophomore guard Jackie Ciccotto (Staten Island, N.Y.) scoring for the Clippers, but three points for Post before the quarter gave them a 16-13 advantage.
• Post began the second quarter on a 10-1 run to create a double-digit separation, and extended the gap up to 19 at 33-14 before back-to-back Nicholson layups made it 33-18 with 1:27 left in the half. Post added a layup to its total before halftime, while a sophomore guard Cameron Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) free throw in the final seconds created a 35-19 score at the break.
• The visitors kicked off the second half with six-straight points before an 8-4 stretch for Concordia with Corbett scoring all the Clippers' points made it 45-27 with 4:26 to go in the quarter. Post created a game-high 26-point lead off a 10-2 run to create a 55-29 lead, with freshman guard Sara Hopkins (Mountain Top, Pa.) and Rankins scoring for Concordia in the final two minutes while the Eagles added three points to make it 58-33.
• Concordia cut the separation down to 16 in the fourth quarter off a 13-4 stretch to start the final frame to make it 62-46, but could not get any closer as four-straight free throws for the Eagles ended the rally and made it 66-46 with 1:41 to play. The Clippers ended the contest on a 6-2 run with Ciccotto and Clement contributing to create the final score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Clippers converted on 20-61 shots, going 1-6 from three-point territory and 11-20 from the free throw line.
• Post finished 23-59 from the field, 5-19 from distance and 17-21 from the free throw line.
• Concordia dished out 14 assists versus 10 for the visitors.
• Concordia committed 17 turnovers, resulting in 18 points for Post. The Eagles committed 22 turnovers, leading to 13 points.
• Post held a 47-36 advantage in rebounds.
• Concordia' bench scored nine points while Post got 13 from its bench.
• Concordia recorded 10 steals with four blocks while Post stole the ball six times with six blocks.
