Black Grabs 1,000th Career Rebound; Concordia Women's Basketball Edged at Goldey-Beacom, 61-51

WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) surpassed the 1,000 rebound plateau for the Concordia Clippers women's basketball team on Saturday evening at Goldey-Beacom College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. Concordia wasn't able to come away with the road victory as the Lightning edged the Clippers, 61-51, at the Joseph West Jones Center.

According to historical records, Black is the first women's basketball player to record over 1,000 rebounds in their collegiate career with Concordia. She currently has 1,010 rebounds after today's game.

In the first quarter the Clippers scored the game's first points, but Goldey-Beacom scored eight unanswered points to lead 8-3 at the 5:55 mark. The Lighting would extend their advantage to seven points with 2:42 to go as the home team maintained their lead after 10 minutes of play, 17-12.

Concordia began the second quarter with three straight points as the Clippers' offense would struggle for the remainder of the period. Goldey-Beacom out-scored Concordia 14-2 for the final 9:09 of the quarter as the Clippers went into the locker room trailing 31-17.

The third quarter saw Concordia battle their way back to within 10 points, 38-28, after an 11-7 run began the period. A three-point basket for Black at the 1:46 mark got the Clippers within seven, but four of the final six points for the Lightning brought the score to 44-35 going into the fourth quarter.

A 6-2 run for Concordia to begin the fourth period cut their deficit to five with 6:24 to go in regulation. Five unanswered points for Goldey-Beacom would put the Lightning ahead by double digits as the Clippers looked to mount one last comeback. Concordia would get to within seven, but were unable to complete the comeback as Goldey-Beacom held on for the 61-51 win.

Freshman Saundra Cleckley (Queens, N.Y.) led the Clippers with a career-high 18 points to go along with a career-best nine rebounds while adding three assists and two steals. Black recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while adding four blocks. Senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.

Concordia (3-21, 3-12 CACC) will return home on Tuesday for the first of back-to-back home games.
