Women's Basketball Upended by Chestnut Hill, 80-64

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team hosted Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon as the Clippers were unable to come away with the home victory, falling to the Griffins 80-64.

Chestnut Hill took a 10-4 lead in the first quarter as Concordia would cut their deficit to a basket at the 4:39 mark, 10-8. The Griffins ended the period on a 10-6 run as the Clippers trailed 20-14 after 10 minutes of action.

The second quarter saw the visitors extend their advantage to nine, 28-19 with 4:35 remaining on the clock as Concordia began to slowly cut into the deficit. The Clippers would get within five at the 1:37 mark as Chestnut Hill's lead would remain the same at halftime, 31-26.

After a field goal by the Griffins to begin the third quarter, Concordia used a 9-2 run to knot the score at 35-35 with 6:21 to go in the period. The Clippers would take a one point lead, but seven unanswered points for Chestnut Hill put the visitors back in front, 46-40. Concordia got to within two, 48-46, but the Griffins ended the period on an 8-2 run to lead 56-48 going into the fourth quarter.

In the final period, the Clippers would fall behind by double digits at the 6:41 mark, 65-54. Concordia was unable to get any closer as Chestnut Hill would go on to take the 80-64 win.

Sophomore Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) led the Clippers with 16 points and added seven rebounds off the bench as freshman Saundra Cleckley (Queens, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 14 points off the bench to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Senior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while adding three blocks as senior Lyric Blanch (Kingston, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points.

Concordia (3-18, 3-9 CACC) will next visit Bloomfield College on Tuesday evening for a CACC North Division game.
