BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers women's basketball team returned home on Wednesday evening to host Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game. Concordia would earn a 54-51 victory over the Warriors as the Clippers snapped a two-game losing skid.
The first quarter began with Nyack taking a 4-0 lead as a 6-0 run for Concordia would give them a 6-4 advantage at the 4:35 mark. The Clippers would extend their lead to 12-8 with 1:34 remaining in the period, but the Warriors scored five unanswered points to end the quarter and lead 13-12 after 10 minutes of action.
Both teams would be neck-and-neck in the second period until Nyack would pull ahead 23-17 at the 1:42 mark. Concordia would cut into their deficit by ending the half on a 4-0 run as the Warriors went into the locker room with a 23-20 advantage.
An 8-2 run for the Clippers would begin the third quarter as Concordia re-gained the lead, 28-25, with 7:58 remaining on the clock. Six unanswered points for Nyack would allow the visitors to take the advantage back and with 3:25 to go led 39-31. The Clippers scored four of the last six points during the remainder of the period to cut the deficit to 41-35.
In the fourth quarter Concordia began with 10 unanswered points to lead 45-41 at the 4:25 mark. The first points for the Warriors came with 4:11 to go as Nyack looked to keep it a close game. Back-to-back layups for the Warriors would cut the deficit to a point, 50-49 with 1:14 remaining on the clock. Strong free throw shooting for the Clippers would be the key to holding onto the lead as Concordia took the 54-51 victory.
Senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 19 points while adding five rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Sophomore Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 15 points, four steals, three rebounds, and two assists as senior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 14 rebounds and five blocks.
