Concordia Women's Basketball Upended at Georgian Court, 66-55, in CACC Action

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Concordia Clippers women's basketball team traveled to Georgian Court University on Wednesday evening for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game against the Lions. Concordia was unable to take the road victory as Georgian Court captured the 66-55 win.

The Clippers scored the game's first points, but fell behind 10-4 at the 4:38 mark of the first quarter. A 5-2 run for Concordia would cut their deficit to three points, as the Lions ended the period with eight of the last 10 points to lead 20-11 after 10 minutes of action.

Georgian Court would extend their advantage to double digits early in the second quarter, but the Clippers battled their way back to cut the deficit back to single digits by the 5:29 mark, 26-17. The Lions scored seven unanswered points to lead 33-17 as the home team continued their offensive momentum to lead at halftime, 40-21.

In the third quarter Concordia was outscored 6-1 as Georgian Court led 46-22 with 6:17 remaining on the clock. The Clippers would score back-to-back field goals as they looked to get a run together, but the Lions scored five of the final seven points to close out the period as Georgian Court led 51-28.

Concordia came out in the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 51-37 as the Clippers looked to mount a late comeback. The Lions snapped their scoreless drought at the 7:16 mark to begin a 6-2 run for Georgian Court. The Clippers would work to get within 10 points, 61-51, with 1:44 remaining on the clock, but couldn't complete the comeback as the Lions held on for the 66-55 victory.

Sophomore Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) led Concordia with a season-high 17 points off the bench as she also added six rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded 16 points to go along with three steals and two rebounds while senior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Clippers (1-15, 1-6 CACC) will next visit Wilmington (Del.) on Saturday afternoon for a CACC game in Newark, Del. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. as fans unable to attend can follow the action by clicking on the live stats link under the women's basketball schedule page on ConcordiaClippers.com.
