Concordia Women's Basketball Concludes 2017 Calendar Year with a 75-59 Defeat at Mercy

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team battled Mercy College in their final game of the 2017 calendar year on Saturday afternoon. The Clippers were unable to come away with the non-conference victory as the Mavericks secured a 75-59 win.

The two teams would be neck-and-neck early in the first quarter as Concordia led 10-7 at the 5:18 mark following a 6-0 run. The Clippers would be out-scored 14-6 for the remainder of the period as Mercy led 21-16 after 10 minutes of action.

In the second quarter Concordia scored the first two baskets to cut their deficit to a point, but the Mavericks would regained their advantage, 25-20, with 7:09 to go in the period. The Clippers would get to within a point again and at the 2:40 mark would tie the score at 29-29. Mercy ended the quarter with five of the last seven points as Concordia went into the locker room trailing 34-31.

A 4-0 run for the Clippers began the third quarter as Concordia held a one point lead. An 11-2 run followed for the Mavericks as the home team led 45-37 at the midway point of the period. Mercy ended the quarter with nine of the final 11 points as the Clippers trailed 54-41 going into the fourth period.

The Mavericks began the final quarter with a 5-0 run as Concordia scored their first points at the 6:56 mark. The Clippers were unable to mount a late comeback in the period as Mercy held on for the 75-59 victory.

Freshman Cameron Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) came off the bench for Concordia to lead the team with a career-high 13 points as she also had three rebounds and two steals. Senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) added nine points while freshman Sabrina Clement (Queens, N.Y.) led the Clippers with a career-best nine rebounds.

Concordia (0-13, 0-4 CACC) will return to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Wednesday to visit Felician University.
