Women's Basketball Defeated at Caldwell in CACC Play, 80-48

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Concordia College women's basketball team visited Caldwell University for their final game before the holiday break on Tuesday evening. The Clippers were unable to come away with the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division victory as the Cougars took an 80-48 win at the Newman Center.

In the first quarter Concordia would trail 5-0 as the Clippers answered back with five straight points of their own to tie it at the 7:06 mark. Caldwell would then score 10 unanswered points to lead 15-5 with 3:17 remaining in the period. Both teams scored seven points for the remainder of the quarter as Concordia trailed 22-12 after 10 minutes of action.

The Clippers would begin to cut into the deficit in the second period as a 16-5 run would give Concordia their first lead of the game, 28-27, at the 4:13 mark. Both sides would alternate the lead on the scoreboard for the remainder of the quarter as a 5-2 run for the Clippers to end the period tied the score at halftime, 33-33.

Concordia would struggle offensively in the third quarter as the Cougars used a 9-3 run to open up a 42-36 advantage at the 7:32 mark. After a field goal for the Clippers, Caldwell scored 14 unanswered points to lead 56-38 with 2:03 to go in the period. Concordia only scored six points in the quarter as the Cougars led 64-39 going into the fourth period.

Both teams scored three points early on the the quarter as neither side was able to score many points in the period. An 13-6 run for Caldwell would give the home team a 78-46 advantage at the 3:13 mark as neither side scored another point for the remainder of the game as the Cougars took the 80-48 win.

Senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 15 points as she also added three rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) came off the bench to score a season-high 15 points along with five rebounds and three assists.

Concordia (0-12, 0-4 CACC) will next battle Mercy College on Saturday, December 30th with the game played at Purchase College in Purchase, N.Y.
