Clippers Women's Basketball Falls in Non-Conference Action to Southern N.H., 66-53

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers women's basketball team battled Southern N.H. University on Wednesday evening in a non-conference game at the Meyer Athletic Center. Concordia was unable to grab a win in their final home game of the 2017 calendar year as the Penmen took a 66-53 victory.

The first quarter saw both teams neck-and-neck on the scoreboard until a 6-0 run for Southern N.H. gave the visitors a 12-6 lead at the 4:00 mark. The Clippers ended the period on a 6-2 run as Concordia trailed 14-12 after 10 minutes of action.

The Clippers would knot the score at 16-16 with 7:45 remaining in the second quarter as the Penmen scored six unanswered points to hold a 24-18 advantage at the 3:22 mark. Concordia managed a basket to break the scoreless drought, but Southern N.H. ended the period scoring another six straight points to go into the locker room with a 30-20 lead.

The Penmen scored the first five points of the third quarter to lead 35-20 at the 8:05 mark. The Clippers would fall behind by as much as 18 in the third period as Southern N.H. held a 48-35 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth period the Penmen would continue to extend their lead on the scoreboard as Concordia found themselves behind 56-36 at the 7:04 mark. A quick 6-0 run for the Clippers would give the team some momentum with 5:16 remaining on the clock and trailing 56-42. Concordia was unable to put together another strong run as Southern N.H. took the 66-53 win.

Senior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 16 points while adding eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) added 13 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists while redshirt-junior Brianna Hendrick (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded a season-high 15 rebounds.

Concordia (0-11, 0-3 CACC) will return to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Tuesday to visit Caldwell University.
