BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team hosted Post University on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game in the Meyer Athletic Center. The Clippers would come up short in their quest for their first win of the season as the Eagles came away with a 60-58 victory.
The first quarter saw Concordia hold the early advantage on the scoreboard, 6-2, and by the 3:43 mark the Clippers held an 11-6 lead. Concordia maintained their advantage through the remainder of the period as the Clippers led 19-16 after 10 minutes of action.
Concordia would use a 7-0 run to begin the second quarter as the Clippers led by double digits, 26-16, with 8:26 remaining on the clock. Post answered back with six unanswered points to cut their deficit to four, 26-22, and later on would use a 6-2 run to take a 30-29 advantage at the 1:54 mark. Neither side was able to end the period on a strong run as both sides went into the locker room tied at 32-32.
The Eagles would come out in the third quarter with a 6-1 run as Concordia trailed 38-33. The Clippers would get within two at the 3:16 mark, but Post maintained their lead and would hold a 44-41 advantage going into the fourth period.
Seven straight points for Concordia would begin the fourth quarter as the Clippers held a 48-44 lead with 7:30 to go. The Eagles would then use a 12-3 run to hold a 56-51 advantage in the final 2:25 of regulation. Four straight points for Concordia brought them within one and knotted the score at 58-58 following a three-point basket by senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) at the 37 second mark. Post drew a foul in their next possession with four seconds to go as both made free throws would give the visiting team the 60-58 win.
Sophomores Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Taylor Scruggs (Philadelphia, Pa.) each scored 12 points for the Clippers as Nicholson added five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) added eight points while senior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a team-high nine rebounds.
Concordia (0-10, 0-3 CACC) will take a break from their conference schedule to host Southern N.H. on Wednesday evening.
