Clippers Women's Basketball Edged at Nyack in CACC Opener, 62-56

NYACK, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team opened up their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Saturday afternoon at Nyack College. The Clippers were edged in the CACC North Division showdown, 62-56, at the Bowman Gymnasium.

In the first quarter Concordia would score the first two baskets of the game to lead 4-0 as the Clippers maintained the advantage on the scoreboard in the early going. The Warriors would trail by only a basket for much of the period as Concordia led 15-13 after 10 minutes of play.

Nyack grabbed their first lead of the game off a three-point basket to begin the second quarter as the Clippers regained the advantage at the 5:57 mark, 19-18. The two sides would alternate leads on the scoreboard for the remainder of the period as Concordia scored the last three points of the quarter to hold a 28-27 advantage at halftime.

A 10-3 run for the Clippers would begin the third quarter as Concordia held their largest lead, 38-30, with 5:59 to go in the period. The Warriors would end the period on a 6-2 run as the Clippers would maintain their advantage, 42-39, going into the final 10 minutes of regulation.

Concordia would begin the fourth quarter with a three-point basket to lead 45-39 as the Clippers looked to maintain their advantage. Nyack would rally off 10 unanswered points to lead 49-45 as Concordia would call a timeout at the 5:47 mark. The Clippers would quickly knot the score a 49-49 and after a 5-0 run later on, led 54-53 with 1:40 to go. Concordia was unable to hold on to the lead as the Warriors ended the game on a 9-2 run to take the 62-56 win.

Senior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 15 points and eight rebounds while also adding a season-high five blocks. Sophomore Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points while senior Lyric Blanch (Kingston, N.Y.) added seven points.

Concordia (0-8, 0-1 CACC) will return home on Tuesday to host Dominican College (N.Y.) in a CACC North Division showdown in the Meyer Athletic Center.
