Wilkinson Nets 1,000th Career Point; Clippers Women’s Basketball Falls to NYIT

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) scored her 1,000th career point for the Concordia Clippers on Wednesday evening as she becomes the ninth member of the 1,000 point club for the women's basketball program since the 1996-97 season according to historical records. Wilkinson's game-high 31 points wouldn't be enough for Concordia as they would fall to NYIT, 69-60, in non-conference action in the Meyer Athletic Center.

The first quarter began with both teams neck-and-neck on the scoreboard until the Bears extended their lead to 17-4 at the 4:29 mark. The Clippers would be out-scored 11-5 for the remainder of the period as NYIT led 28-9 after 10 minutes of play.

In the second quarter the Bears would keep their offensive momentum going as the visitors extended their advantage to 26 points at 40-14. Concordia managed to score the final three points of the half as the Clippers went into the locker room trailing 40-17.

Wilkinson would take over offensively in the third quarter as she scored all 26 points for Concordia in the period. She connected on six three-point shots in the quarter and none were bigger than the three-point basket at the 6:08 mark which allowed her to surpass 1,000 points. She would out-score NYIT in the period, 26-13, as the Clippers would go into the fourth quarter trailing 53-43.

The final period began with a quick three-point basket for the Bears, but Concordia would get to within six at 66-60 with 1:25 remaining on the clock. The Clippers were unable to complete the comeback as NYIT held on for the 69-60 win.

Wilkinson's 31 points came on 10-of-28 shooting from the field as she shot 7-of-15 from behind the arc. Freshman Saundra Cleckley (Queens, N.Y.) came off the bench to score a career-high eight points as senior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a game-high 15 rebounds and three blocks for Concordia.

The Clippers (0-7) will open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday afternoon at Nyack College.
