Concordia Women's Basketball Falls at St. Thomas Aquinas, 70-41

SPARKILL, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team traveled to St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference game. The Clippers were unable to hand the Spartans their first loss of the season as St. Thomas Aquinas took a 70-41 victory.

Concordia began the first quarter with a 5-0 lead as the Clippers would maintain a lead during much of the period. Concordia led 12-7 with just under two minutes to go in the quarter, but the Spartans ended the period on a 4-0 run to get within a point, 12-11 after 10 minutes of play.

Both teams would go scoreless for over the first six-plus minutes of the second period as the Clippers would allow 12 unanswered points to trail 23-12. Concordia would only score five points in the quarter as the Clippers would go into halftime trailing 24-17.

In the third quarter the home team would maintain their advantage on the scoreboard as Concordia was behind 36-19 at the 6:26 mark. St. Thomas Aquinas would increase their lead to 20 points, 44-24, as the Spartans led 51-31 after the third quarter.

St. Thomas Aquinas began the fourth quarter with six unanswered points and would increase their advantage to 62-33. The Clippers were unable to mount a late comeback as the Spartans would hold on for the 70-41 win.

Senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) led Concordia with nine points while redshirt-junior Brianna Hendrick (Valley Stream, N.Y.) added eight points and sophomore Nicole Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in with seven points. Senior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Clippers (0-6) will return home on Wednesday to host NYIT in the Meyer Athletic Center.
