Clippers Women's Basketball Upended at #12 Queens (N.Y.), 64-48

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team visited Queens (N.Y.), the 12th-ranked women's program in NCAA Division II according to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Preseason Poll. The Clippers were unable to steal a road victory as the Knights captured the 64-48 win.

Concordia would lead early on in the first quarter, 7-2, but four unanswered points by Queens would get the home team within a point at the 7:08 mark. The Clippers would keep close on the scoreboard, but the Knights used a 10-0 run to lead 23-13 with 1:20 to go in the period. At the end of 10 minutes Concordia would trail 25-16.

An 8-2 run would begin the second quarter for Queens as the Clippers trailed 33-18. Six unanswered points for the Clippers would cut their deficit to single digits as Queens went into the locker room with a 35-26 advantage.

In the third quarter Concordia would get to within six points at the 6:21 mark, but the Knights a 10-0 run to increase their lead to 48-32 with 1:13 to go. The Clippers snapped their scoreless drought with a free throw with 56 seconds to go, but Queens ended the quarter with back-to-back field goals to lead 52-33.

Concordia used a 6-2 run to begin the fourth quarter and would cut their deficit to 12 points, 58-46, with 3:42 remaining. The Clippers were unable to get any closer as the Knights ended the game with a 6-2 to capture the 64-48 victory.

Senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) led Concordia with 10 points as she also had three rebounds and two steals. Senior Lyric Blanch (Kingston, N.Y.) added seven points while freshman Brenna Cloud (Delran, N.J.) finished with a career-high eight rebounds.

The Clippers (0-4) will play in their home opener on Tuesday evening again Southern Conn.
